So much about the album feels of-a-kind with it's\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003epredecessors; field recordings and found sound permeate, narrative songwriting crashes\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003einto heady, swirling compositions. Jenkins sings with what can only be described as a powerwhisper (think Sufjan Stevens, Annie Lennox, Margo Timmins or YHF-era Tweedy), her\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003evocals up close and intimate but subtly confrontational.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\nBut it all feels bigger here, more\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003efinely honed, bolder and richer than her previous work and than her peers.\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003eBorn and raised in New York City, Jenkins has been touring and performing\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003esince she was a child, self-releasing her early recordings before releasing breakthrough An\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003eOverview on Phenomenal Nature in 2021. On My Light, My Destroyer, many of the songs are\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003edevoted to specific feelings, and to really getting inside those feelings as opposed to getting\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003einside a narrative arc.
